Welcome to St Mary's, Telephone House and the Bargate Medical Centre Surgeries

The Bargate Medical Centre closed its doors for the last time on the 30th September.

Unfortunately, the new telephone system we installed at St Mary's Surgery has not been able to deal with the additional volume of calls we are getting as a result and as winter pressures start to kick in.

We would like to apologise to our patients who have not been able to get through on the phone. We, like you, are frustrated that the system has not been able to cope with this surge.  We have made some changes to the messages on the system, we have introduced more call handlers at peak times and will signpost patients to more appropriate resources as applicable.

Please bear with us whilst these changes bed in and we make further changes to improve phone access for our patients.

St Mary's Surgery is proud to be supporting Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust once again in promoting cervical smear awareness

Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to women and their families affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities.

You can reduce the risk of cervical cancer by attending cervical screening

Throughout June we ran a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of attending cervical screening to coincide with Cervical Screening Awareness Week

Key messages are as follows:

Every day 9 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 3 lose their lives.

Attending cervical screening reduces the risk of cervical cancer

1 in 4 women fail to attend cervical screening every year

Cervical cancer is one of the only cancers that is preventable. With your help we can move ever closer to eradicating it

Attend your smear test and reduce your risk of cervical cancer

We will continue to invite women who are due their cervical smear - please don't ignore your invitation. It takes just a few minutes and could save your life.

The NHS in England are introducing a new electronic record called the Summary Care Record (SCR), which will be used to support your emergency care.

For more information click here. This will take you to a website which gives further information about the Summary Care Record – your emergency care summary.

Please read Your medical record and you. Statement of Intent.

Named Accountable GP for all patients

From the 1st of April 2015 all practices are required to allocate a named accountable GP to all patients.

Our patients have been assigned a named GP and you can find out who this is at your next interaction with the practice.

There will be no impact on the service you recieve regarding appointments or which GP you can see. The named GP will not necessarily be the one you see most.

Care Quality Commission

The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England.

Their job is to make sure that care provided by hospitals, dentists, ambulances, care homes and services in people’s own homes and elsewhere meets government standards

They would like to hear from patients about the care they have received.
